091110 Weeding : Eight of us weeded at Bayberry Pond today and got more than half the essential weeding done, at least for the first flush. We tried using MacLeods but concluded hula hoes were better suited for the job. Late in the morning, we had a special visitor.

091015 Bayberry First Anniversary : Although we had planted oaks and mowed mustard and thistles at Bayberry for a couple of years, restoration of the pond did not become an official project of the Walnut Creek Open Space Foundation until 2008. Organized restoration began October 7. These photos show how the pond looks on October 15, 2009.

Mount Shasta flowers - Oregon trip 7-27-09 : We took these pictures on the slopes of Mount Shasta in N. Calif. at the end of July 2009. I didn't remember our having spent time around Mount Shasta so I planned a stop there at the start of our trip to Portland. I was surprised to see the numbers and varieties of wildflowers at the end of July.

oregon trip_08_09 - Horse play : A young horse playing with a ball. We were driving through farm country near McMinnville, OR after visiting a winery or two. I stopped when I saw several horses in a pasture next to the highway. As it turned out, we got to see something a bit more unusual. The small Canon point-and-shoot camera was handy so we used it to capture the event.
