We'd had sage bushes in our front yard for years. Generations of bees, hummingbirds and other pollinators have visited them. They keep blooming right into November.
One day as we finished lunch on the patio, we spotted a dragonfly perched for some time on a tall stem. I got a camera and eased up to take a picture. This dragonfly was cooperative until I finally got too close for its peace of mind.
After the dragonfly left, I checked for insects on the willow herb (epilobium brachicarpum) plants going to seed. The insects are quite small and the slender plant stems move wildly in a slight breeze. Lesley held the branch near this insect.
